I am just a quick two-hour drive to the coast, plus there is the beautiful forest and greenery all year!! Over the years, I have become a bit of a pro at going out to the beach with the family for cheap. This past week my oldest daughter and I were excited to have some beach time with my girlfriend and her kids! If you’re on a budget, planning things out ahead of time can save a ton of money.
Money Saving Tips At The Beach:
Meal Plan– Before heading out, my girlfriend and I sat down and planned out what food we were taking. We packed food from home for breakfast and lunch in our room. We made sure to pack plenty of snacks, bottled water, drinks, and things for the kids so we weren’t making last minute runs to the expensive local stores. We tend to do dinner out, but pack some extra lunch stuff just in case we end up in the room. If you stay in a place with a kitchen or a grill, you can cook dinners in the room as well.
Buy Everything For The Beach Prior– Have you priced beach toys at the beach?? I buy the kids toys at dollar stores so if they get ruined, it’s not a big deal. We also grab hand aqua socks, beach towels, swimsuits, goggles, sunscreen, etc. Anything that the kids need. Plus, be sure to keep an eye out late summer/early fall for end of season discounts.
Look For Deals- We start watching sites like Groupon and Living Social for deals on things to do in the area! You can find deals on most everything, including great local restaurants. We have found some hidden local places from deals on Groupon. Plus you can find killer deals on hotels there too.
Research The Area- I always make sure that I know where the best place is for groceries, gas, and last minute stuff. Even though I do plan ahead, sometimes mom brain happens and things get forgotten at home.
Do A Road Trip Ready Check On Your Car- Be sure to check out your car before taking it on a quick road trip. Your mechanic is likely going to be more affordable than emergency assistance while on the road or at the beach. Plus, this will assure you’re keeping your family safe during your road trip.
Group Travel With Others- Sharing places to stay with others can help reduce costs as well. If you rotate meals among families, the cost of food lowers drastically. My girlfriend and I shared our lists and were able to pack out of our stock piles for the trip (except for perishables like milk and fruit). This was a huge money saver.
What do you do to save money on your beach trips??
