Do you ever sit and wonder how our parents did it all?? I have to say I just had this conversation with my mom how different the times are now whereas when I was younger there was no smartphones, no social media, no technology for kids, and just the general change of the times. Right now for my family, we are always on the go and if we aren’t on the go make no mistake we are getting ready to head out on the go again. Thank you to Single Care for sponsoring this post.
It probably will not come as a big shock to anyone having a family is expensive. As a single mom the weight of finances are heavy on me, but let’s face it every penny can add up in every household. As the mom of three kids, I have learned over the years how fast health care expenses can add up with everything from prescriptions, to copays, to surgery, dental care, specialty appointments, and even just over the counter medications. Just in the past month, we have been to the pediatricians three times, filled four prescriptions, had a household cold get passed around, and had counseling appointments.
How To Save Money On Healthcare:
Don’t Skip Wellness Appointments- Stay on top of those yearly appointments. It may not seem like it would hurt to skip an appointment but it is amazing how fast problems can build up into something bigger. Staying constant with your doctor and your dentist will keep things from building up and even deter health. Plus admit it you have put things off and ended up not only with sick days but also more medical costs by ignoring routine exams.
Stock Up On Over The Counter Medication- I can’t tell you how many times I have been laughed at for how many bottles or boxes of medications I buy at a time. Take for example I found children’s pain reliever on clearance recently for $1.34 instead of the regular price of $6 and I bought it all. It was dated good for two more years and well with three kids, we go through quite a bit between flu bugs, soccer injuries, and just regular kid headaches as well. I also try to do the same with cold medications as well. With the kids, it’s easy to go through a whole bottle if all three are sick at the same time. Just know your families usage and stock up when you can, much cheaper this way then having to run out and pay full price.
Be Proactive About Your Health- It seems obvious right, but literally how many times do we put our needs as mom or dad last. Taking small steps to eat right, stay active, and get sleep can make a huge difference in our health and lower our future medical bills as well. Plus this gives us as parents a slight chance to keep up with kids. Plus it’s important that we take the time to set the right example for our children as well, they do watch our every move that we make and copy it.
