It finally has happened!! The Farmers Market in my area has opened up again, and while it’s not quite in full swing yet, it’s open. But I am pumped for all the fantastic deals. Plus, you can’t beat fresh farm produce either.

If you are new to Weight Watchers, let me tell you a little well-known secret: most fruits and veggies are zero points!! It was a chance to start shopping at the Farmer’s Market in a new manner. You see, ours has everything that tastes amazing but isn’t good for you, such as food carts, bakery, and homemade goodies.
For a while, I avoided the Farmers Market out of fear I wouldn’t stay on plan, but I realized there are too many amazing things to buy at the Farmers Market that fit right in with the Weight Watchers program.
WHAT IS Weight Watchers?
When starting a new weight loss program or diet change, consult a doctor or physician about personal health concerns. It is a good idea to have blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and hormones checked at a physical before and during being on the WW program.
New to Weight Watchers?? Also known as WW, a weight loss program uses points assigned to food to track and lose weight. When you sign up, you take an assessment that will assign you a point value to eat daily and a weekly allowance. You can carry over 4 points from the day into your weekly budget, which is handy when you need more points.
I have been on Weight Watchers since 2011. They have had Points Plus Value, WW Smartpoints, Blue Plan, Green Plan, Purple Plan, WW Personal Points, and now Weight Watchers Points. The new Weight Watchers Simplified plan is the new program launched in November 2022, similar to previous plans like WW Smartpoints, with some color plans. ( You can see the Weight Watchers Zero Point Foods 2023 -> here)
No matter the WW plan, it works to help you learn healthy eating habits. I have hit my lifetime goal weight several times but stopped following the plan and tracking, so the weight does creep back on.
Right now, you can head on over -> here and sign up for Weight Watchers for $5 a month for the first three months.
Weight Watchers What To Buy At Farmers Market
Plant Starts- It can be fun to grow your fruits, herbs, and vegetables!! Getting your start at a farmers market is a great way to get “Local Insider Information” on what does excellent when. It’s also a great way to save money growing your own instead of running to the store. Everything tastes better, homegrown and home-cooked.

Seasonings- Many of our local farmers will sell their seasoning packets. Most are zero, and many will even be salt-free as well. I love the flavors and supporting small businesses, too!
Herbs– I love to use fresh herbs in my cooking, but I have a black thumb! I love to buy either fresh, dried herbs or freshly picked herbs at our markets.
Local Honey- There are so many benefits to local honey. Thankfully, honey isn’t too high on the Weight Watchers Points. It’s a great occasional treat for your sweet tooth as well. Plus, supporting local honey companies is also a great way to support small businesses.
Fresh Produce– It is incredible how much better than store-bought produce!! Plus, the prices are also amazing at the farmer’s market compared to the supermarket. And let me tell you, the zucchini size is insane when the season hits. Plus, the asparagus is so long and perfect for grilling!
Not sure what produce to look for at the farmer’s market? Nicole at Fresh Apron has a Spring Produce Guide, Summer Produce Guide, and Fall Produce Guide to help know what’s in season at the market!
Now, be sure to go armed with your smartphone so you can use your e-tools and calculator. I use my calculator often when I find treats to look up close ones for values or plug nutritional values in to calculate Weight Watchers Points. I know my weaknesses and avoid them if they don’t fit my Weight Watchers Points allowance for the week.
What do you pick up at the farmer’s market??
